In the garden

This week has been hectic for me. Having to teach for half a day, every day, starting from Tuesday and ending on Friday(tomorrow) and thereafter, rushing off to the store to work till 9pm each day. But teaching to me, is stress relief for me. A break from work and to do all things creatively.

I had the chance to meet up with a fellow blogger who also surfs at my KC forum. She came to Singapore from Brunei just to take up a 4 day baking and cake decoration class with me.

Our week started on Tuesday when I taught her to bake 2 cakes. The 2nd day, I taught her how to roll fondant, add and mix colours to create the different shades and we did some figurines too. From penguins to baby booties to roses to food icons.

Today, she learn how to cover a cake in fondant. And also how to bake the delicious Nutella chocolate cupcakes. And look at what she did..and she said, "This is my first time with fondant".

And I still don't believe her...do you?

And while she was fiddling with her cake...I made these on my own.

A journey of a 1000 miles

Lao Zi once said that a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. Tomorrow marks that single step Kitchen Capers have to take in opening her first retail store in the heartlands of quiet, sleepy town in Kallang Bahru, Singapore.

For the past 4 weeks, much preparation were made in renovations, in cold calling every Food supplier or manufacturer to stock up on ingredients. There was so much to do, I never knew. Now I know. And then nearing to the date, hubby dearest took leave and help me to run errands.

He alone did most of the store's layout, and co-ordinated and liasie with contractors on chillers, electricial works, plumbing and flooring and even the shelving racks. Then he helped me to design on placement of goods and how we should display the many range of food, ingredients, be it dry or wet, chocolates or flour, candy or even where the cake stands should be so that we get that maximum selling power.

I think my store wouldn't have made it in time if he hasn't help me. :)

Beside hubby dearest, Natasha came and helped too. And my brother-in-law, Willie who will be working at the store as Manager. We painstakingly tagged each product, display and stock up the whole place. We come in at 10am and leave by 6pm, EVERYDAY..I must emphasised that too. For the later part of last week, I got sick. High fever, flu and cold..so I stayed away from the shop. Yet they continued to work. Despite being ill, I found the Lord's strength in me to cook a decent dinner for them. Warm meals...lovingly prepared.

By His grace, the 39C high temperature left me within 2 days and I am back to the store again.

At the end of today, we finally saw the fruit of our labour...a testimony of God's loving kindness for all of us and for all.

I hope to see many of you who are in SG and who frequents my blog or my forum at my store.

Come and visit us...many in store promotions and freebies during the 1st initial month of opening.

Old fashioned granny pots

I got these again. I just didn't have time to load it up to show. However, these are not spoilt. Just that some of the flowers painted are not that pretty or refined enough for sale in a big departmental store in Singapore. So once again, my supplier friend has ask if I could help them to sell it online.

These pots are new and selling at below COST price. No more discounts. CASH and CARRY!

Please email me at gina@kitchencapers.net if you are interested.

UPDATE : 8 April

SOLD OUT! Thanks to all who email to me on this.

My Cinderalla Dream

The ole favourite tune from Disney's animated cartoon "Cinderalla"..so appropriate for my topic today.

A dream is a wish your heart makes
When you're fast asleep
In dreams you lose your heartaches
Whatever you wish for, you keep

Have faith in your dreams and someday
Your rainbow will come smiling thru
No matter how your heart is grieving
If you keep on believing
the dream that you wish will come true

When I started Kitchen Capers back in July 2004, I could only dream that one day, Kitchen Capers aka KC will materialise from a virtual space to a physical space. As if the Heavens have been listening to me, my dream has come true.

I will open by my first KC Retail store by end of April 2009. A store that has everything, well almost everything.

A shop that sells baking ingredients to bakeware, to fancy cake boxes, chocolate boxes or cookie bags, party kits, ribbons, novelty candles, balloons and cake stands. This is a section for my KC students. Who have loyally join many of my classes. I will sell local ingredients to some gourmet ingredients, from flour to eggs to vanilla pods to Varlhorna chocolates and tools for every avid baker or cake decorator. I will have fancy favour bags..these are bags made Baby in mind or wedding. Great for Baby showers gifts and wedding gifts.

Right now, the store is going thru' some major changes..renovations, fixtures, lightings and shelvings. So no pictures of the store as yet.

This store is made possible with the help of my hubby and my family. Especially to my sister, W.

If only the store was a little bigger, then I could have organised all my baking classes there too. But for now, its just my very own, very first Retail store.

Stay tuned..for more photos, more updates and its location in a month's time.
